You could get a flush pole Guitar Madness pickup for $8.95 to $12.75 and that would work and have a fuller tone than most original Fender '71 pickups. The six poles aren't ideal, but the overlap of the magnetic fields gets the job done just fine. It's easy to find and expensive because your 1971 Musicmaster Bass had a 1971 *Stratocaster or Mustang* pickup with flush poles and a solid cover.
